How many people are there in the world?

The world's population, or the total number of humans on Earth, reached 7.08 billion in 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Different regions have different rates of population growth, but in the unusual case of the twentieth century, the world saw the biggest increase in its population due to medical advances and increase in agricultural productivity. In 2000, the United Nations estimated that the world's population was growing at the rate of 1.14 percent (or about 75 million people) per year, and by the year 2050 there may be as many as 9.2 billion people in the world!
