What is a giant puffball?

The giant puffball is an edible mushroom that grows in meadows, forests, and fields all over the world. Big and white, the giant puffballs look like a large ball of thick whipped cream that has been dropped on the ground. The giant puffball is one of the biggest mushroomsit can grow as large as a basketball and weigh up to 40 pounds (20 kilograms). When it reaches its full size, the giant puffball starts to crack slightly, revealing a white interior. Within days, the spores in the interior mature and are released through a hole in the top of the puffball's cap. The mushroom then begins to rot, and touching it will cause it topuff!burst into a cloud of dust.
