Who invented the automobile?

The history of the automobile is complex and dates back to the fifteenth century when the Italian inventor and engineer Leonardo da Vinci was creating designs and models for transport vehicles. However, two men, Karl Benz and Gottleib Daimler, are both credited with the invention of the gasoline-powered automobile, because they were the first to make their automotive machines practical to people. Both German engineers living in the nineteenth century, Benz and Daimler worked independently, unaware of each other’s efforts. Both built compact, internal-combustion engines to power their vehicles. Benz built his three-wheeler in 1885; it was steered by a tiller (a farming tool used to prepare the soil for planting). Daimler’s four-wheeled vehicle was produced in 1887.
