When it comes to food, kids are at their most cunning. One night they act as if they haven’t eaten all day, wolfing down the macaroni and cheese; the next they act as though they’ve just sipped a bad bottle of wine, unceremoniously spitting it out on the floor. Perhaps it’s because eating (or not, as the case may be) is one thing kids can effectively resist. You can force them to get dressed, or to get into the car, or to get into the bath through sheer strength and will, but if they truly don’t want to eat, you can’t force food down their throats.
