Get Your Kid to Write a Thank-You Note

Imagine you’re a kid: You wait all year for your birthday, and the holidays never seem to arrive fast enough. Nothing is more satisfying than ripping off that wrapping paper and making a mess right in front of everyone! But your excitement turns into dread as you look over at your mom and notice she’s writing down who gave you what. You know that within minutes you’ll hear those loaded words: “You know you have to write thank-you notes this week.” What a present buzz-kill!

Of course, as a parent, you want to raise kids who appreciate gifts and the people who give them. You want them to understand that people spent their hard-earned money to buy and send those gifts, and that a thank-you note is small way to recognize that effort.
