If you are hankering after a savoury treat, this delicious and filling smoothie will hit the spot. Use fresh tomato juice with no added preservatives for a great boost of lycopene.
50 g (2 oz) red pepper, cored, deseeded and roughly chopped
50 g (2 oz) cucumber, peeled and roughly chopped
25 g (1 oz) spring onion
100 ml (3½ fl oz) tomato juice
Juice of ½ lemon
½ avocado
½ teaspoon red chilli, deseeded and finely chopped (optional)
Put all the ingredients in a blender and whizz. Season with a little organic tamari sauce if desired.
Makes 300 ml (10 fl oz) or 1 large glass
