Increasingly, black women joined anti-slavery societies when they could, and some became powerful forces in these organizations. Here they honed their ability to shape group culture and explore solutions to black problems. These societies afforded black women crucial training to deal with the struggle for political equality. Many were aided by white suffragists as well.
