How were blacks affected by the revivals of the Methodist societies during the Colonial Period?

In addition to the work of blacks in the Baptist church, they were attracted to the revivals that the Methodist societies held. Methodist churches had racially mixed memberships and attracted large numbers of blacks. The emotional revivals and meetings that white ministers led attracted both races, who considered themselves reborn in African-style celebrations. In an electrifying atmosphere, worshippers fell down as if they were dead, and hundreds of blacks were said to have cried when they heard sermons recounting Ezekiel’s vision of dry bones.
