Unlike traditional African-American churches, megachurches generally offer a conservative message that does not challenge the status quo. Memberships range from ten thousand to thirty thousand, and these churches are big businesses that provide a wide range of services to the community. Their services may include medical clinics, fitness centers, HIV and substance abuse counseling, day-care centers, banks, job training, marriage counseling, and tutoring. Some consist of various facilities, large sanctuaries, and multiple worship times to support expanding membership. Megachurches increased in numbers and in membership when they began to use television and other media to promote their work and gain recognition.
