When was the Continental Army racially integrated?

America’s founding fathers grudgingly accepted free black men for service in the Continental Army. On January 16, 1776, Congress proclaimed that “free Negroes who have served faithfully in the Army at Cambridge may be reenlisted therein.” Thus, by 1778, the Continental Army was racially integrated.
