Where is the first national museum of African American history and culture? |
The first national museum founded to showcase the work of African Americans, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, was established on December 19, 2003; it is the nineteenth museum to open as a part of the Smithsonian Institution. Architect David Adjaye designed the building, which features a crown motif from Yoruban sculpture. Construction at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is expected to be completed in July 2015.
