Introduction

Are sensory perceptions the same in men and women?

Mechanoreceptors—Respond to changes in pressure or movement.

Pain receptors—Respond to stimuli that result in the sensation of pain.

Studies have shown that women are more sensitive to smell, taste, touch, hearing, and vision than men and that they are influenced more clearly by hormonal factors. Measuring the acuity of a woman’s senses during a monthly cycle found them most acute at ovulation, when estrogen was at its highest level.
