Do epithelial tissues contain blood vessels?

Epithelial tissues are avascular, meaning they do not contain blood vessels. Oxygen and other nutrients diffuse through the permeable basement membranes from capillaries in the underlying connective tissue, while wastes diffuse into connective tissue capillaries.
