The final digestive processing of chyme takes place in the duodenum. Once the chyme passes from the stomach to the duodenum, it is mixed with digestive secretions from the liver and pancreas in the final steps in digestion. Most of the absorption of nutrients into the bloodstream and lymphatic system takes place in the jejunum and ileum.
