How is pregnancy confirmed?

Early external signs of pregnancy include a missed menstrual period, bleeding or spotting, fatigue, and tender, swollen breasts. A pregnancy test is needed to confirm pregnancy. Pregnancy tests look for the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), also called the pregnancy hormone, in either urine or blood. This hormone is produced when the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. It is only present in pregnant women.
