How many distinct stages of development are part of the prenatal period?

The prenatal period of development consists of two distinct stages of development: embryological development and fetal development. Embryological development begins with fertilization and continues until the end of the eighth week of development. Fetal development begins at the ninth week of development and continues until birth.
