Hair

Is a hair living or dead?

Hairs are primarily dead, keratinized protein cells produced by the hair bulb. As the cells are pushed farther and farther away from the growing region, the shaft becomes keratinized and dies. The root is enclosed in a sheath, called the hair follicle.
