What are the functions of prolactin?

Prolactin has two major functions in females. First, it works together with other hormones to stimulate the development of the ducts in the mammary glands. Secondly, it stimulates the production of milk after childbirth. Most researchers believe that prolactin has no effect in males, while some believe it may help regulate androgen production.
