Human Growth and Development

Introduction

What is growth and development?

Growth is an increase in size. Human growth begins with a single fertilized ovum. As it grows, the number of cells increases as a result of mitosis, while at the same time the newly formed cells enlarge and grow in size. Development is the ongoing process of change in the anatomical structures and physiological functions from fertilization through each phase of life to death.
