What is pelvic inflammatory disease? |
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is an infection of the uterus, uterine tubes, or other female reproductive organs. Many women do not experience any symptoms of PID while the disease is damaging their reproductive organs. When symptoms are present, pain in the lower abdominal area is most common. Other symptoms may include fever, unusual vaginal discharge that may have a foul odor, painful intercourse, painful urination, irregular menstrual bleeding, and pain in the right upper abdomen (rare).
