What is prostatitis?

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. The two types of prostatitis are acute prostatitis and chronic prostatitis. It may be caused by bacterial pathogens or may develop without evidence of an infecting organism. Symptoms include pain in the lower back, difficulty with urination often accompanied by a burning sensation and/or pain, frequent urination, especially at night, and sometimes fever.
