What is the amniotic cavity? |
The amniotic cavity is a fluid-filled chamber. It contains amniotic fluid that surrounds and cushions the developing embryo. At week 10 there is approximately 1 ounce (30 milliliters) of fluid in the cavity. Towards the end of a pregnancy, between weeks 34 and 36, there is about 1 quart (1 liter) of fluid.
