What is the gestation period of human development?

The gestation period is the time spent in prenatal development. Human gestation is conveniently divided into three trimesters of three months each. The first trimester is the period of embryological and early fetal development. During the second trimester the organs and organ systems develop. The third trimester is characterized by a period of rapid growth prior to birth.
