What is the most common cause of blindness in the United States?

A person is considered legally blind in the United States when his or her best corrected vision is 20/200 or worse. Cataracts are the most common cause of blindness in the United States. This is a condition in which clouding of the lens occurs as a result of advancing age, infection, trauma, or excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
