What is the respiratory tree?

The term respiratory tree refers to the upside-down tree configuration of the respiratory pathways. It follows this pattern from large branch to smaller branch: trachea ?right and left pulmonary bronchi ?secondary bronchi ?tertiarybronchi ? bronchioles?pulmonary lobules?alveoli.
