When is growth hormone therapy recommended?

Growth hormone therapy involves the injection of synthetic growth hormone several times a week for a period of several years to stimulate growth. It is most effective when started before the bones have fused so that there is still the potential for growth. Not recommended for every short child, it is beneficial for children who have trouble functioning (e.g., climbing the steps of the school bus).
