The testes hang in a pouch called the scrotum (from the Latin scrautum, meaning a “leather pouch for arrows”). The scrotum is a fleshy pouch consisting of loose skin, loose connective tissue, and smooth muscle. It is divided internally by a septum into two chambers each of which contains one testis.
