Where is the pituitary gland located?

The pituitary gland is located directly below the hypothalamus in the sella turcica (“Turkish saddle”), a depression in the sphenoid bone. It is protected on three sides by the bones of the skull and on the top by a tough membrane called the diaphragma sellae.
