Where is the thymus gland located?

The thymus gland is located in the mediastinum, generally posterior to the sternum and between the lungs. It is a double-lobed lymphoid organ well supplied with blood vessels but few nerve fibers. The outer cortex of the thymus has many lymphocytes, while the inner medulla contains fewer lymphocytes.
