Nervous SystemLearning and Memory |
Which areas of the brain are involved in memory? |
Several areas of the brain are associated with memory, including the association cortex of the frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes, the hippocampus, and the diencephalon. Damage to the hippocampus results in an inability to convert shortterm memories to long-term memories. Memory loss may be the result of trauma or injury, disease, lifestyle choices, such as alcoholism and drug use, and aging.
