Which medical condition is caused by the abnormal location of endometrial tissue?

Endometriosis is the abnormal location of uterine endometrial tissue. Under normal conditions, endometrial tissue only lines the uterus, but in some instances the tissue migrates to remote locations of the body such as the ovaries, pelvic peritoneum, the vagina, the bladder, or even the small intestine and lining of the chest cavity. Endometriosis is associated with dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), pelvic pain, and infertility.
