The Sun

How long has the Sun been shining?

The Sun has been shining for 4.6 billion years. We know this from a variety of scientific studies. The most convincing evidence comes from the study of meteorites. Using various dating methods, some of these meteorites have been shown to have formed at the time the Sun began to shine. They have been dated to be 4.6 billion years old, so the Sun is estimated to be that old as well.
