How many galaxies are there in the universe?

Thanks to the finite speed of light and the finite age of the universe, we can only see the universe out to a boundary called the cosmic horizon, which is about 13.7 billion light-years in every direction. Within this observable universe alone, there exist an estimated fifty to one hundred billion galaxies.
