What caused the hyperinflation of the universe?

Nobody knows why hyperinflation occurred in the early universe. One possibility is that, as the universe aged and cooled down, the fundamental forces in the universe began splitting apart from one another, and one of those splits released titanic amounts of energy that powered inflation.
