How Stars Work

Why do stars shine?

Stars shine because nuclear fusion occurs in their core. Nuclear fusion changes lighter elements into heavier ones and can release tremendous amounts of energy in the process. The most powerful nuclear weapons on Earth are powered by nuclear fusion, but they are puny compared to the nuclear explosiveness of the Sun.
