Did Peter approve of slavery? Did he think that men were better than women? |
Peter’s statements were similar to those of Paul’s. Like Paul, Peter believed that Jesus was coming back during his lifetime. He wrote, “Therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray.” (NIV, I Peter 4:7) Many scholars think Peter did not approve of slavery, nor did he view women as inferior to men. Rather, he was focused on changing belief, not behavior. Behavior would follow—if Jesus didn’t come first.
