The Bible and Pop Culture

Has the Bible influenced stock car racing?

Yes. Stock car racing began as an illegal activity. Because making, selling, and buying alcohol was illegal in many parts of the southern United States during the early half of the twentieth century, some daredevils took to transporting moonshine from place to place in their souped-up cars. That was not easy. The roads were curvy and steep, and there was the constant threat of being caught by revenuers. Eventually, that moonshine running was the beginning of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Today, NASCAR is a wildly popular (and legal) spectator sport. A secular sport, its popularity has long since exceeded the boundaries of the South. Now it attracts fans from all over the world, and from all walks of life.
