How did Daniel do that?

Daniel separated the two men and cross-examined them. The two stories conflicted. “When [the two conspirators] were separated from each other, [Daniel] summoned one of them and said to him, ‘You old relic of wicked days, your sins have come home, which you have committed in the past.… Now then, if you really saw this woman, tell me this: Under what tree did you see them being intimate with each other?” (NRSV, Susanna, Verses 52–54) Daniel asked the same thing to the other conspirator. Their conflicting answers proved that the charges were trumped up.
