Old Testament

The Pentateuch

How did Jacob meet his wife, Rachel?

It was love at first sight—at least for Jacob. Jacob saw Rachel as she came to water her father’s sheep. Jacob removed the stone from the mouth of the well. Then Jacob did two things that were unusual for the time and place. First, he kissed Rachel. Second, he cried. Presumably Jacob kissed Rachel because he was smitten with her, and cried because he was so overcome with happiness.
