How did Saul persecute the followers of Jesus?

As in Stephen’s case, he approved of killing Jesus’ followers. Also, he persecuted them with “murderous threats.” (NIV, Acts 9:1) Saul went to Damascus in the hopes of arresting more of Jesus’ followers.
