How does Ecclesiastes begin?

It begins with this introduction: “The words of the Teacher, the son of David, King in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, says the Teacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity!” (NRSV, Ecclesiastes 1:1-2) Vanity in this sense means “meaningless,” not “being conceited.”
