The Bible is often used in courts of law. Before testifying, a witness places his/her left hand on a bible, and swears to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God. However, this practice is not mandated by law in all places. People who do not believe in the holiness of the Bible are not required to swear on it.
