The Bible and Archaeology

What are some of the most telling ossuaries archaeologists have found?

Probably the most famous ossuary found to date is the Caiaphas ossuary. A relatively recent discovery, the Caiaphas ossuary was found in 1990 when, during the course of a construction project, a bulldozer broke through a hidden tomb by accident. In the tomb was an elaborately carved limestone ossuary measuring about 14” high and 30” wide. In the ossuary were found the remains of a sixty-year-old man. Researchers saw an Aramaic inscription on the end of the ossuary. It reads, “Yehoseph bar Qypa.” This translates into Joseph Caiaphas. Could this be the same high priest Caiaphas who interrogated Jesus before he was crucified? Most scholars think so.
