What did Diotrephes do that John did not like?

Diotrephes did not acknowledge John’s authority. Also, he spread “false charges” against John and some of the others. John did not go into detail about the nature of the false charges. Also, John was displeased because Diotrephes did not welcome certain believers into his home, thus denying them the very basics of hospitality. Diotrephes threatened those who wanted to welcome the believers with expulsion from the church.
