What did God want Jeremiah to tell the people?

God told Jeremiah to remind the people how he, God, had led the people through the wilderness, and had never forsaken them. In addition, God told Jeremiah to chastise the people for their idolatrous ways. God said, “Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee.” (KJV, Jeremiah 2:19)
