What did James say about manners of speech?

He advised the recipients of the letter to listen more than they talk. He wrote, “Let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger, for your anger does not produce God’s righteousness.” (NRSV, James 1:19–20). He added, “How great a forest is set ablaze by a small fire! And the tongue is a fire.” (NRSV, James 3:5–6) James pointed out that the tongue was a double agent. He wrote, “With it we bless the Lord and Father, and with it we curse those who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.” (NRSV, James 3:9–10)
