What did Jesus mean by saying ‘Son of Man’?

Jesus referred to himself by this name frequently. Opinions differ as to the phrase’s meaning. In the Old Testament, the name is used to refer to the Messiah. Other people believe the phrase has to do with Jesus’ role as God in human form, sharing in the life of humans, with all its imperfections.
