They celebrated! Moses and the others sang a song praising God in what is thought to be one of the oldest compositions in the Bible. In the song, the Israelites praised God for being their strength and salvation. They acknowledged God as their only God and the God of their fathers, and they recounted God’s triumphs over the Egyptians (Exodus 15:1–18). Then Moses and Aaron’s sister, Miriam, made her first biblical appearance since she watched over baby Moses in the reeds. She played her tambourine. She and the other women danced and sang, “Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.” (KJV, Exodus 15:21)
