God sent poisonous snakes among the people. Many people died of snake bites. To stop the plague of snakes, God instructed Moses to fashion a snake of bronze and mount it on a pole. Everyone who was bitten looked at it and lived. Some scholars say this event foreshadowed Jesus’ crucifixion.
