Old Testament

The Pentateuch

What happened to Jacob’s family tree right before he died?

He pruned some here and grafted some there. On his deathbed, Jacob bucked tradition by shaking up the order in which he blessed his sons. Tradition held that the oldest son be blessed first, and be given the lion’s share of the inheritance. However, Jacob blessed Joseph, his penultimate son, first. Then, Jacob adopted Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, as his own.

Jacob died. The Egyptians embalmed him. Then, according to Jacob’s wishes, he was buried with his ancestors in Canaan.
